If your residency in Spain began after 16 March 2023, you are required to exchange your UK driving licence for a Spanish licence within 6 months of your residency start date. After this deadline, you are no longer legally permitted to drive in Spain using your UK licence.

Please also note that licences originally issued in countries that do not have a licence exchange agreement with Spain, and which were later exchanged for a UK licence, cannot be exchanged in Spain. In these cases, the applicant will be required to take the Spanish driving test in order to obtain a Spanish driving licence.
