You must attend your TIE appointment in person, as your fingerprints will be taken. Your TIE card is usually ready for collection around four weeks later and must also be collected in person.

Availability of Appointments

TIE appointments can be difficult to obtain, particularly in coastal areas and major Spanish cities. Availability is controlled by the Spanish authorities and waiting times vary by location.

Important: You Need a Padrón Certificate First

​

Before your appointment, you must obtain a Padrón Certificate (Certificado de Empadronamiento) from your local Town Hall (Ayuntamiento).

The certificate:

• Must be obtained for each applicant.

• Must normally be issued within the previous three months.

• Processing times vary from the same day to several weeks, depending on the municipality.
